Star-Crossed Lovers (2025)

Star-Crossed Lovers is a digital reinterpretation of The Cowherd and The Weaver Girl story, a celestial Chinese folktale. The short animations depict the yearning of two lovers condemned to a tragic fate; allowed only to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month (or seventh moon). Looping through different emotional states, the work encapsulates the lovers’ cycle of devotion; the patience of waiting, the anticipation of meeting and the sorrows of departure.

Commissioned as a video projection by Fairfield City Museum and Galleries for the Garden of Joy event, produced by Tammy Dang and Thao Nhi La.

I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which my work is made, the Cabrogal people of the Dharug Nation, and the Dharawal people. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. Free Palestine.
